The Dual-Action foam filters are biological filters composed of open-celled foam which provides enormous amounts of usable surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize. This bacteria breaks down harmful waste substances (ammonia and nitrate), making your aquarium a safer environment for your fish to live and breed. This fundamental filter is excellent for breeding all types of aquarium fish, as well as for hatching and raising brine shrimp as it will not trap or harm them. Replacement foam filter pads are also available.

The Complete Cycle Filter is a nitrifying and denitrifying filter tower which houses a power head and Hi-Q Tank Clear media. Water is drawn from the aquarium through the middle of the tower, while a portion of the water is pumped down and into the gravel bed of the aquarium. The Complete Cycle Filter provides environments for all three groups of beneficial bacteria for the Nitrogen Cycle, which is at the heart of every successful aquarium. The Nitrogen Cycle consists of beneficial bacteria that break fish wastes (primarily ammonia) down into nitrite, and then another group of bacteria that break nitrite down into nitrate. The Complete Cycle Filter is unique in that it also provides the proper environment for a third group of bacteria to live; this group breaks down nitrate into harmless nitrogen gas, thus completing the Nitrogen Cycle. The surface of the Tank Clear media pellets in the Complete Cycle Filter provide living places for the aerobic bacteria of the first two stages of the Nitrogen Cycle - converting ammonia to nitrite and then nitrite into nitrate. The center of the media pellets provide an anoxic/anaerobic environment for nitrate-eating bacteria to grow; the bacteria that live in this environment convert nitrate into harmless nitrogen gas, which is then expelled from the surface of the water.
